Why the DVD logo became a legend
Anyone who owned a DVD player remembers it: leave it idle for a few minutes and the logo starts drifting across the screen, bouncing off the edges and changing color. The whole room would wait for it to hit the corner perfectly. It got so famous it became a sitcom gag, a meme and a video call topic.
The catch is that neither the Mac nor Windows ships that screensaver. Windows 11 still has its classic screen savers (Bubbles, Ribbons, Mystify, 3D Text) and macOS has its own, but the DVD logo was never part of either system: it came with the players.
DVD Bounce in PrimoEngine
DVD Bounce is a PrimoEngine wallpaper that brings the logo back, bouncing over a near black background. It’s a shader: not a recorded video, but drawn in real time by your graphics card, so it stays sharp on any display.
It runs on Mac and Windows 11, and it’s part of the Premium catalog: $8.99 once, for 1 Mac and 1 PC.
On Windows 11: as a screen saver
On Windows, DVD Bounce can be exactly what you remember: a screen saver that shows up when the PC sits idle.
- Install PrimoEngine for Windows (x64 or ARM64) from the downloads section. It’s in beta and needs Windows 11 23H2.
- Turn on Premium and apply DVD Bounce from Explore.
- In Settings › Lock screen, turn on Use PrimoEngine as the screen saver.
- Under Start after, choose how many idle minutes to wait.
When the PC goes idle, the logo starts bouncing full screen on every display. Move the mouse or press a key to leave. The full app walkthrough is in how to set a live wallpaper on Windows 11.
On a Mac: on the desktop and the lock screen
On a Mac, DVD Bounce runs behind your windows as a live wallpaper. And because it’s a shader, it can go on the lock screen too:
- Install PrimoEngine (macOS 26 Tahoe or later, Apple Silicon or Intel).
- Turn on Premium and apply DVD Bounce from the menu bar.
- From the wallpaper’s menu, choose Use on Lock Screen… and follow the app’s walkthrough to System Settings.
The details are in live wallpaper on the Mac lock screen.
Will it slow down my computer?
No. Shaders are the lightest kind of wallpaper, and PrimoEngine stops drawing when nobody is looking: with a window covering the desktop, a full-screen app or the display asleep, CPU use drops to 0% (measured on the Mac). More in do live wallpapers drain battery?
More wallpapers in the same mood
If you like a bit of nostalgia on screen, look at the clocks and the record player in the clocks and widgets collection, or at Code Rain, the falling green code. The whole catalog is in the gallery.

Frequently asked questions
Does Windows 11 have the DVD screensaver?
No. Windows 11 still has the classic screen savers, like Bubbles, Ribbons and 3D Text, but it never had the DVD logo. That one came with DVD players, not with the operating system.
Does the Mac have a DVD screensaver?
Not built in. With PrimoEngine, DVD Bounce runs on the desktop and, because it's a shader, on the Mac lock screen too.
Is DVD Bounce free?
No, it's part of the Premium catalog. PrimoEngine is free with 6 wallpapers that stay free forever, and the $8.99 lifetime Premium unlocks the rest, DVD Bounce included.
Is it heavy to leave DVD Bounce running?
No. It's a shader drawn on the GPU, the lightest kind of wallpaper, and PrimoEngine stops drawing when the desktop is covered.
